15 Minutes With... Interviews Steven Hayes (Convicted of the Cheshire Home Invasion Murders - 2007).

Updated: Dec 15, 2019

On July 23, 2007, Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky committed an armed home invasion on Cheshire, Connecticut. When it was over, the Petit Family would never be the same. Both the Petit children, Hayley (who had just completed High School and was set to attend Dartmouth) and her 11 year old sister Micheala as well as their mother Jennifer (a Nurse) would lose their lives. Jennifer and Michaela would also be the victims of rape by both assailants. Dr. William Petit, (an Endocrinologist) would be severely beaten to the point that police on scene could not even identify him. The house would be set on fire as well in an effort to destroy evidence. Both Hayes and Komisarjevsky would be spared the Death penalty when then Governor Dannel Malloy signed legislation abolishing it on May 22, 2009.

Both Hayes and Komisarjevsky would be sentenced to Life Without Parole and would begin serving their sentences at the Northern Correctional Center, Connecticut's highest maximum security prison. Hayes and Komisarjevsky would then both be transferred to the State of Pennsylvania "for security reasons". Joe interviewed Hayes on several occasions at State Correctional Institution Greene. Hayes expressed remorse as well as describes the timeline to the crime. Hayes also gives Joe information regarding the cae that was never made public and reveals to Joe that he (Hayes) had Gender Identity Disorder and is in fact Transgender.
